먼데이타임스는 2015년 10월 5일 창간한 대한민국의 영자 신문사이다. 현재 전국 중·고등학교, 군경 등 종이신문을 공급하며, 인터넷 신문을 통해 한글판과 영문판을 발행하고 있다. 전세계 저명인사 인터뷰 및 청소년들을 위한 재미있고 유익한 정보를 제공하며, 매학기 한국 대학생 서포터즈 활동 뿐만 아니라 70여명의 원어민과 세계 각국의 대학생들의 제작 참여를 도모해, 젊은 세대를 글로벌 리더로 성장할 수 있도록 다양한 기회와 정보를 제공하고 있다.
The Monday Times is a South Korean English-language newspaper founded on October 5, 2015. It currently supplies paper newspapers such as middle and high schools and military police across the country, and publishes Korean and English editions through Internet newspapers. It provides interviews with prominent people around the world and provides fun and informative information for teenagers, and participates in the production of 70 native speakers and college students from all over the world, as well as the activities of Korean university student supporters every semester

2.1. 설립배경
먼데이타임스는 2015년 10월 5일 창간 이후 현재까지 영어 몰입 환경 조성을 목표로 하고 있다. 창간 당시, 창립자 신인호는 정부의 연구지원 사업을 통해 캐나다에서 연구를 진행했으며, 연구 주제를 '대학생 해외연수 고찰‘을 주제로 선정하여 해외에서 한국 학생들이 영어를 습득하는 과정을 면밀히 분석했다. 연구 과정 속에서 분석된 것은 학생들은 길거리 신문을 통해서 영어 학습에 도움을 받았으며, 이러한 경험을 통해 국내에서도 적용될 수 있다는 가능성을 확인하게 되었다.
그 이후 이명박 정부 당시, 영어몰입교육이 도입 논의가 있었으나, 한국어 사용 감소에 대한 우려로 인해 정책이 무산되었다. 그러나 창립자는 정부에서 시행하지 못한 영어 몰입 환경을 일부나마 조성할 수 있다는 확신을 가지게 되었고, 연구 과정을 바탕으로 학생들이 영어를 자연스럽게 접할 수 있도록 영자신문을 제작하는 아이디어를 구체화했다. 영자신문이 학교 현장에서 널리 활용된다면, 학생들은 자연스럽게 영어에 노출될 수 있고, 이를 통해 실질적인 영어 학습 효과를 얻을 수 있을 것이라는 판단이었다.
먼데이타임스는 전국 중·고등학교에 영자 신문을 보급하여, 이를 기반으로 학교에서 자체적으로 영어 신문을 제작하는 등 가시적인 성과를 거두었다. 일부 학교에서는 PDF 형식의 디지털화된 신문이 아닌 학생들의 관심과 전통적인 신문 문화를 널리 알리기 위해 인쇄본을 활용하기도 했다. 이러한 변화는 기존의 입시 위주의 영어 학습이 아닌 실생활 속에서 영어를 습득하는 환경을 조성하는 것을 목표로 했다.
영자신문을 통한 영어 학습은 단순한 독해 능력 향상을 넘어, 학생들에게 적극적인 언어 활용 경험을 제공하며, 비판적 사고력과 글로벌 시각을 키우는 데도 도움을 준다. 먼데이타임스는 앞으로의 목표는 영어 몰입 환경을 조성하는 중요한 매개체이자, 글로벌 리더로 성장할 청소년의 성장을 도모하며 신문사로서 트렌드에 발 맞춰 지속적으로 발전해 나갈 것이다.
먼데이타임스는 영자신문 발간을 시작으로 신문 활동 영역을 구축 및 확대하는 과정에 이종대, 민병준, 김홍열 등 세 명의 시인 겸 작가를 영입하여, 2024년 3월 25일 첫 한글 신문을 발간을 시작했다. 영자신문 발간 이례 한글 신문 발간을 위한 도전이었다.
그 후 영자 신문과 한글신문을 번갈아 발간하며, 신문 활동 영역의 확장을 했다.
이후 인쇄문화 뿐만 아닌, 트렌드에 발 맞춘 영상 뉴스 활동 영역을 구축 및 확장 시도를 했고, 그 시작을 이상윤 영상 담당 PD를 영입하면서 유튜브 채널을 개설과 함께 시작을 알렸다. 영상 뉴스는 물론 최근에는 웹드라마 제작까지 시도하여 다양한 문화 콘텐츠 사업을 시도한 것이다.
또한 한국의 영자신문 발간을 시도했다면, 전세계를 위한 한국 문화 알리기 프로젝트를 시도하기 위해 2024년 5월 8일 한글학회 김술옹 원장과 협력하여 한글의 세계화라는 주제로 한글 포럼을 개최했고, 2025년에는 베트남 하노이 국립 외국어대학과 양해각서를 체결하고 베트남 신문을 제작하고 있다.
The Monday Times has been aiming to create an environment for immersion in English since its foundation on October 5, 2015. At the time of its foundation, founder Shin In-ho conducted research in Canada through a government research support project, and selected the research topic as the theme of 'Consideration of Overseas Training for University Students' to closely analyze the process of Korean students acquiring English abroad. What was analyzed in the research process was that students received help in learning English through street newspapers, and through this experience, the possibility that it can be applied in Korea was confirmed.
Since then, there have been discussions about the introduction of English immersion education at the time of the Lee Myung Bak government, but the policy has been canceled due to concerns about a decrease in the use of Korean. However, the founder was convinced that he could create a part of the environment for English immersion that the government had not implemented, and based on the research process, the idea of producing an English newspaper was embodied so that students could naturally access English. It was judged that if English newspapers were widely used in the school field, students could be exposed to English naturally, thereby achieving practical English learning effects.
The Monday Times has produced tangible results by distributing English newspapers to middle and high schools nationwide and producing their own English newspapers based on them. Some schools have also used printed versions to promote students' interest and traditional newspaper culture, rather than digitized newspapers in PDF format. These changes aimed to create an environment where students can learn English in real life, rather than learning English based on the existing entrance examination.
Learning English through English newspapers not only improves reading comprehension skills, but also provides students with active language utilization experiences and helps develop critical thinking skills and global perspectives. The Monday Times aims to become an important medium for creating an environment for immersion in English and to promote the growth of youth who will grow into global leaders and continue to develop as a newspaper company in line with the trend.
Activities since its establishment
Starting with the publication of the English newspaper, the Monday Times recruited three poets and writers, Lee Jong-dae, Min Byung-joon, and Kim Hong-yeol, to build and expand the newspaper's activity area, and began publishing the first Korean newspaper on March 25, 2024. It was a challenge for the publication of a Korean newspaper, which is a rare case of publishing an English newspaper.
After that, English newspapers and Korean newspapers were published alternately, expanding the area of newspaper activity.
Since then, it has attempted to establish and expand not only print culture but also a video news activity area that is in line with trends, and it began with the opening of a YouTube channel by recruiting Lee Sang-yoon, a video producer. It has recently attempted to produce web dramas as well as video news, and has attempted various cultural content businesses.
In addition, if they attempted to publish an English newspaper in Korea, they held a Hangul forum under the theme of globalization of Hangul on May 8, 2024, in cooperation with Kim Sul-ong, president of the Hangul Association, to try a project to promote Korean culture around the world. In 2025, they signed a memorandum of understanding with Hanoi National University of Foreign Studies in Vietnam and are producing Vietnamese newspapers.
