The Vickers Virginia was a long-distance heavy bomber used by the British Royal Air Force for night missions in the time between World War I and World War II. Its first flight was in 1922 and it served on the frontline from 1924-1938. It then served in support roles for parachute training and photography until 1941. The Vickers went through many variations in its lifespan, from the wooden-framework MK I to the entirely-metal MK X. During development, it was used to test out unique wing designs to increase stability. Earlier aircraft were updated to fit these new standards. For years, the humming drone of the Vickers could be heard in the skies as they soared over the United Kingdom during their many exercises.
