대만의 NAS 제조 회사이다. 시놀로지의 개발자들이 나와 만든 브랜드라는 설이 있지만 사실과 다르다. 시놀로지의 일부 개발자들이 큐냅 쪽으로 스카우트 되었던 것이 와전된 것으로 두 브랜드는 엄연히 별개의 회사이다.

몇 가지 특징을 살펴보면, 큐냅은 자체 공정이 있기 때문에 하드웨어 기술이 좀 더 발달해 있고 제품이 좀 더 튼튼한 느낌이다. 대부분의 나스가 그러하듯 로컬 사용, 자체 웹 서비스, FTP, WebDAV 등의 외부 접속도 가능하며 모바일 장치에서도 사용할 수 있도록 애플리케이션이 존재한다. 소프트웨어적으로는 시놀로지보다 모바일 애플리케이션 호환이 약간 떨어지는 경향이 있지만, 같은 나라 회사 아니랄까봐 대동소이 하다. 한국내 인지도는 시놀로지가 1위지만 양쪽 본사가 있는 대만에서는 1, 2위를 다투는 정도라고 한다.

큐냅의 OS는 QTS이며 최신버전은 5.1.7.2739 이고 체험은 여기서 할 수 있다. 동향을 보면 기본적인 나스 기능은 거의 포화 상태에 있다고 해도 무방하며, 가상화(나스 안에 하이퍼바이저를 이용하여 운영체제를 추가 설치하는 것, 기본 OS는 리눅스 임베디드), LXC 및 Docker 앱, 스냅샷 등의 기능 확장을 하고 있다.

3. 장점

큐냅은 시놀로지에 비해 같은 하드웨어 성능대비 가격이 저렴한 편이다. 특히 저가형에서 차이가 두드러지는데, $159인 TS-230 모델은 RTD1296 CPU와 2GB 램을 탑재하고 스냅샷, 1080p 플렉스 미디어 서버 등이 모두 가능하여 스펙상으로 $249.99인 시놀로지 DS218과 같다. TS-230과 비슷한 가격의 시놀로지 DS220j는 512MB 램 밖에 탑재하지 않고 스냅샷이 불가능한 점 등 기능적으로 부족한 면이 있어 차별화된다.

시놀로지와 경쟁하고 있는 회사인 만큼 시놀로지에서 지원하는 것들은 대부분 지원하며 기능상의 문제가 있는 것은 아니다. 시놀로지에는 있지만 큐냅에는 없는 기능도 있고, 반대로 시놀로지에는 없지만 큐냅에는 있는 기능도 있다. 서로 경쟁하고 있는 듯.

HDMI 포트를 이용하여 접속이 가능하며 음악, 사진, 동영상 등의 출력이 가능하기 때문에 일종의 스마트 TV로 이용할 수도 있다. 리브레오피스, 웹브라우저 등 데스크탑스런 앱들을 여럿 쓸 수도 있어서 키보드와 마우스를 연결할 경우 아예 컴퓨터처럼 쓸 수도 있다.

QTS 4.3.4 업데이트를 통해 스냅샷 지원 기기가 확장되었다! 기존에는 인텔 및 AMD CPU를 사용하고 메모리가 4GB 이상일 경우에만 스냅샷을 지원했는데, 펌웨어가 4.3.4로 업데이트 되면서 저가 CPU(ARM) 및 1GB의 메모리 환경에서도 스냅샷을 찍을 수 있게 되었다. 시놀로지와 차별화되는 부분.

하드디스크는 기가비트 이더넷 보다는 빠르기 때문에 고속의 네트워크 속도에 대한 니즈가 있는데, QNAP는 10기가비트 이더넷 에 주력하는 형식. QNA-UC5G1T 와 같은 USB 외장형 5GbE 랜카드도 판매중이다.

4. 단점

한국 NAS 업계에서 시놀로지의 점유율이 매우 높기 때문에, 큐냅 제품의 인지도가 시놀로지 인지도보다 약간 낮다(서드파티 소프트웨어 제외). 게다가 한국 NAS 포럼의 많은 사용자들은 시놀로지 유저이기 때문에 그만큼 공유되는 정보량에도 차이가 있고 포럼에 질문해도 답변이 오는 시간이나 답변의 질이 떨어질 가능성이 높다. 물론, 그래도 다른 브랜드의 NAS엔 비해서 많은 이용자 수이며, 기본적인 지식들은 큐냅 한국어 FAQ에서도 충분히 확인할 수 있고 영어 포럼까지 포함하면 웬만한 건 아쉬운 대로 다 찾을 수 있다.

HDMI 출력 기능이 약간 불안정하다. 상황에 따라 아예 화면이나 음향 출력이 전혀 안 되거나[1], 화면은 나오는데 음향은 나오지 않는 등의 문제[2]가 간혹 발생한다. 본격 셋톱박스 대용 플레이어로 사용하기에는 약간 불안한 모습. 화면 출력 기능을 통해 파이어폭스나 크롬 등의 브라우저도 사용할 수 있으나, 동영상 등 멀티미디어 기능을 사용하는 웹페이지 접속 때는 안정성이 크게 떨어진다. 브라우징 기능은 텍스트 위주로 간단하게만 사용하는 것이 좋을 듯.

시놀로지를 아이폰이라고 하면 큐냅은 안드로이드라고 비교하는 경우가 있다. 시놀로지는 고급 사용자 설정을 감춰놓는 데 비해 큐냅은 기본 화면에서도 설정할 수 있는 항목이 많은데, 기능이 여기저기 흩어져있고 설명이 자세하지 않은데다 자동번역/발번역 수준의 번역 덕분에 이해하기가 더 어려워진다. 특히 Any라는 단어가 나오면 부정문으로 간주해서 문장의 의미를 완전히 반대로 해석해놓은 것도 있는 등, 한국 사용자들은 번역으로 인해 추가로 고통받고 있는 실정. 다행히 언어변경은 매우 간편하므로, 이게 무슨 소리인지 모르겠으면 잠시 영어로 전환해서 살펴보자.

스마트폰 어플을 사용하여 영상을 재생할 경우 일부 오디오 형식이나 .smi 확장자의 자막파일을 인식하지 못한다. 이 문제는
1. 자막변환 프로그램을 이용하여 .srt로 변환하면 자막문제는 해결되지만 동영상을 옮길때마다 여간 귀찮은 게 아니다.
2. Nplayer 등 다른 플레이어를 설치하면 오디오문제는 해결되고, .smi 형식의 자막을 인식하긴 하지만, DDNS등 이것저것 설정해줘야 하는 게 있고, 무료앱의 경우 광고나 이런저런 단점이 있다. 따라서 많은 동영상을 저장하고 시청할 생각이라면 그냥 다른 경쟁사의 제품을 사용하는 게 속이 편할 것이다.

4.1. 보안 이슈

아래에 서술하겠지만 2년 정도를 주기로 불특정 다수의 큐냅 NAS의 사용자를 대상으로 하는 랜섬웨어 공격 사례와 그 피해가 연이어 보고되고 있다. 물론 시놀로지를 사용해도 랜섬웨어 등의 공격이 발생하지 않는 것은 아니지만 큐냅의 경우 대부분이 펌웨어의 보안 취약점으로 일어났으며 이로 인해 심각한 피해사례가 늘어난 경우가 많은 것을 알 수 있다.

2018년 4월 30일에 한국 일부 사용자가 대상으로 멀웨어 감염사례(관련카페의 가입이 필요함)가 발견되었다. 제조사인 큐냅에서는 '멀웨어'로 표현했지만, 큐냅 제조사에서 준 배치 파일(sh) 내용을 분석해보면 admin과 guest 권한을 초기화하는 내용이 담아져 있어서, 나스 펌웨어의 보안이 뚫린 셈이다. 나스 제조사인 큐냅은 해당이슈에 대해서 제품 초기화로 권한을 복구할 수 있다고 안내하고 있다. 다만 최근의 시놀로지는 백신과 멜웨어 탐지 기능을 제공하니 설치하면 조금이나마 문제를 예방 할 수 있다.
2020년 4월 15일경에 한국을 포함한 전세계 다수의 사용자를 대상으로 랜섬웨어 감염 이 발견되었다. 이전 2018년도에 멀웨어 감염과 유사하게 펌웨어 취약점으로 데이터의 손실이 발생한 것이지만, 한국 큐냅에서는 아무런 공지가 없는 상황이다.
2022년 1월 15일경에 랜섬웨어 감염 사례1 사례2 이 발견 되었다. 이전과 마찬가지로 또 펌웨어 취약점이다. 외부 인터넷으로 연결된 NAS는 모두 랜섬웨어 공격의 대상이 되었으며 일반 유저의 피해가 수천 건 이상으로 예상된다고 한다. 저장된 자료의 손실이 우려되기 때문에 외부 인터넷이나 밖으로 열어둔 포트를 모드 차단 후에 이용하는 것을 권장한다.
2022년 3월 말에 NAS에서 사용 중인 OpenSSL에서 무한 루프가 발생하는 취약점이 존재한다고 발표되었다. 이 문제는 DDoS 공격을 받을 수 있는 취약점인데, 정보를 공개하던 당시에는 패치가 없었다 (...). 이후 4월 25일에 배포된 펌웨어 업데이트에서 취약점이 해결되었다.
2022년 8월 경에 또 랜섬웨어 감염이 시작되었다. 이번엔 포토스테이션 이슈다. 피해사례 이후 9월3일에 배포된 펌웨어 업데이트에서 취약점이 해결되었다. 관련링크

위 서술한 보안 문제로 인해 이용 시 반드시 2단계 OTP 인증을 꼭 켜고 사용하는 것을 권장한다.
