1. 개요

The plane that crashed last night just outside of Pittsburgh is now known to have been the private jet of the Roottree Corporation. Local aviation authorities have speculated that from the pilot's final communications, the winter storm and heavy winds played a significant role in the crash. On board were multiple family members, including corporate president Carl Roottree and his daughters, the Roottree Sisters, best known for their fashion lines and modeling careers. There were no survivors.

2025년 출시된 추리 게임. 시간적 배경은 1998년으로, 계보학 전문가가 되어 인터넷 검색을 활용하여 루트트리 일가의 가계도를 채우고 미스터리를 밝혀나가는 방식으로 진행된다.

2. 특징

본편과 확장팩으로 구성되며, 본편을 클리어해야 확장팩을 시작할 수 있다. 본편인 The Roottrees are Dead에서는 약 100년(5세대)에 걸친 루트트리 가문의 가계도를 채워야 하고, 그 과정에서 밝혀지지 않았던 진실을 알아내야 한다. 확장팩인 Roottreemania에서는 본편에서 완성한 원본 가계도를 토대로 하여, 루트트리 가문 사람들의 숨겨졌던 불륜 관계들을 밝혀내어 그 과정에서 태어난 또다른 혈족들로 구성된 가계도를 채워야 한다.

본래 2023 Global Game Jam에서 1인 개발로 탄생한 웹 브라우저 게임이 기원으로#, 해당 게임은 itch.io에서 여전히 플레이 가능하다. # 이것을 리메이크하고 새로운 확장팩 Roottreemania을 추가하여 2025년에 스팀에 출시되었다. 이 과정에서 기존 AI로 생성된 일러스트도 전문 삽화가의 일러스트로 교체되었다.

각 인물들의 이름을 맞춰야 한다는 점에서 Return of the Obra Dinn, 검색을 활용한다는 점에서 Her Story과 유사하며 제작자도 이 두 게임에서 영감을 받았다고 밝혔다.
