1853년에 발표된 미국의 민요로 스티븐 포스터가 작사, 작곡하였다. 켄터키에 있는 옛 고향의 집을 생각하며 지은 애수를 띈 감상적인 발라드로, 어릴 적 고향에 대한 그리움은 포스터의 작품에 종종 나타나는 주제며 이는 그가 유년기를 보낸 하얀 시골집(White Cottage)에 대한 기억에 기인한다고 믿어지고 있다.
원제는 'My Old Kentucky Home, Good-Night!'이며, 현재는 'My Old Kentucky Home'로 축약된 제목으로 많이 알려져 있다.
이 노래는 많은 인기를 얻었고 빙 크로스비 등 여러 음악가들에 의해 커버되었으며 1928년에는 켄터키 주의 주가(州歌)로 지정되었다.

3. 여담
- 패스트푸드 프랜차이즈 KFC의 한국 런칭 광고에 쓰이기도 했다.# 누구나 한번쯤 KFC 매장에서 들어봤을 BGM도 있다. # 크레이지 아케이드 켄터키 맵의 BGM으로도 쓰였는데링크 모티브가 KFC 매장 음악이다.
- 루이스 모로 고트샬크의 피아노 독주곡 컬럼비아(Columbia)에도 차용되었다.
- 가사 중 현재 시점에서는 분명히 흑인차별적인 부분을(darkies, darkey) 개사한 버전도 있다. 흥미로운 점은 발매 당시엔 노예제 폐지론자들의 지지를 받았던 노래였다. 한편으로는 민스트럴 쇼의 배경음악으로도 많이 사용되었다.
