사우디아라비아 e스포츠 연맹이 개최하는 국제 e스포츠 대회, Esports World Cup 2025의 발로란트 종목에 대하여 다룬다.

4.1. 진행 방식

참가팀
각 리그 Stage 1과 지역 예선으로 선별된 16팀이 참가한다.
그룹 스테이지
16개 팀을 4팀씩 4개 그룹으로 나누어 조별 더블 엘리미네이션(GSL 포맷)으로 진행한다. 오프닝 매치는 Bo1으로 진행하며, 나머지 경기들은 Bo3로 진행한다. 2승 달성 즉시 플레이오프로 진출한다.

포트 배정
16팀은 각 리그 Stage 1 성적과 지역 예선 성적에 따라 다음과 같이 4개 포트로 나누어 배정된다.

포트 1: VCT Stage 1 우승팀 (1-4시드)
포트 2: VCT Stage 1 준우승팀 (5-8시드)
포트 3: 지역 예선 우승팀 (9-12시드)
포트 4: 지역 예선 준우승팀 (13-16시드)

그룹 및 대진 편성
각 그룹은 변형 스네이크 시스템을 사용하여, 다음 3개 조건을 충족한 채로 랭킹 포인트(시드)의 합이 각각 34가 되도록 자동 편성되었다. 각 팀의 첫 경기는 각 그룹 내에서 (포트 1 팀) vs (포트 4 팀), 그리고 (포트 2 팀) vs (포트 3 팀)으로 대진이 편성된다.

팀 수: 각 그룹은 4팀으로 구성된다.
포트 대표성: 각 그룹은 포트별로 한 팀씩 구성된다.
지역 대표성: 각 그룹은 지역 리그별로 한 팀씩 구성된다.

플레이오프
그룹 스테이지에서 올라온 8팀이 싱글 엘리미네이션 토너먼트를 진행한다. 결승을 제외한 모든 플레이오프 경기(3위 결정전 포함)는 Bo3로 진행하며, 결승은 Bo5로 진행한다.

포트 배정, 대진 추첨 및 편성
각 그룹별로 승자전에서 승리한 4팀은 포트 1에, 최종전에서 승리한 4팀은 포트 2에 배정받으며, 플레이오프 대진은 다음과 같은 조건을 충족하도록 8강 대진 추첨을 진행한다.

포트 1팀과 포트 2팀이 8강에서 맞붙는다.
같은 그룹 소속의 팀끼리는 8강에서 맞붙지 않는다.[3]

EMEA는 참가팀 넷 전원이 8강에 진출했고, 내전을 거친 끝에 올라온 Team Heretics와 Fnatic가 결승에 올라오며 각각 우승과 준우승을 차지했다. 특히 헤레틱스는 5연속 준우승과 마스터스 토론토 광탈의 아픔을 떨쳐내고, 지난 마스터스의 준우승팀이자 자신들의 우승을 2번이나 가로막았던 프나틱을 꺾고 우승을 차지하는 서사를 써내렸다.

Pacific은 Gen.G와 Paper Rex가 8강에 진출해 각각 Americas의 8강 진출팀을 가볍게 이겨내며 4강에 진출했지만 EMEA의 두 팀에게 패해 결승에는 오르지 못했다. 3-4위전에서 만난 둘의 대결은 지난 마스터스에서 우승한 페이퍼 렉스를 압도한 젠지의 승리로 끝났다.

Americas는 지난 마스터스에서 성적이 가장 좋았던 G2가 광탈한 사이 NRG와 Sentinels가 8강에 진출했으나, 둘 다 Pacific 팀들에게 서열 정리를 당하고 탈락했다.

CN은 참가팀 넷 전원이 그룹 스테이지에서 탈락하는 수모를 당했다. 특히 Stage 1 우승팀 XLG, 그리고 지난 마스터스에서 선전한 Wolves를 꺾고 EWC에 참가한 TEC 둘 다 2연패로 광탈하며 CN의 상승세에 찬물을 끼얹어버렸다.

6. 여담

2025년 2월 11일, EWC 공식 SNS을 통해 라이엇 게임즈와 3년간 파트너십을 체결했다는 소식이 전해졌으며 이에 따라 리그 오브 레전드, 발로란트, 전략적 팀 전투가 2027년까지 EWC 공식 종목으로 채택된다.

직전에 개최되는 공식 국제 대회인 마스터스 토론토가 권역별 3팀 출전인데에 비해 EWC는 4팀 출전으로 오히려 참가팀 규모가 챔피언스와 동일하다. 챔피언스와 다른 점은 플레이오프 스테이지가 더블 엘리미네이션이 아닌 싱글 엘리미네이션으로 진행하여 실질적인 경기수가 적다는 것.

공식 e스포츠인 발로란트 챔피언스 투어의 스테이지 2 개막이 7월 초~중순으로 예정되어 있어, EWC 2025 진행 중의 주차를 비우거나 이후 주차에서 많은 수의 경기를 진행하는 등 리그마다 다양한 조치가 시행됐다.

한국어 중계진은 정용검 캐스터를 제외한 VCT Pacific 중계진 전원에 박한얼 캐스터가 합류하였다.

G2의 리프가 건강 문제로 인해 EWC에 불참하며 대체자로 shhhack 코치가 출전할 예정이다. #
