1. 개요

영동고속도로 1번. 제2경인고속도로 9번[1]. 인천광역시 남동구 서창동에 있는 영동고속도로와 제2경인고속도로의 분기점. 명칭은 소재지인 서창동에서 유래했다.

수도권제1순환고속도로 장수 나들목과 이 분기점 사이를 무네미로가 연결하고 있다.

서해안고속도로로 가려는 차량들과 제2경인고속도로를 통해 출퇴근하려는 차량의 하모니를 이뤄 출퇴근시간이면 어김없이 막히는 장소중 하나다.

인천광역시 남동구 논현동 주민들은 이 분기점과 월곶 분기점 사이에 청능대로와 연결되는 소래IC 신설을 요구하고 있다. 이에 인천시 측은 군자 요금소를 소래로 이전한다면 나들목 신설이 가능하다는 입장이며, 2022년 이 조건을 받아 들여 신설이 합의됐다.# 다만 영동고속도로 서창~월곶 구간 확장 공사 계획이 지연되며 소래IC 계획도 덩달아 뒤로 밀리는 모양새다.#

영동고속도로 이정표에는 인천, 원주, 강릉 3가지 주요 도시들이 표시가 되는데 인천의 기준점이 바로 이 분기점이다. 강릉 방향으로 진행하면 표지판이 원주로 표시가 된다.

1994년 7월 6일 : 서해안고속도로 인천 - 안산 구간, 제2경인고속도로 서창 분기점 - 광명 나들목 구간 개통과 함께 분기점으로 영업을 시작하였다.
2001년 8월 25일 : 서해안고속도로 인천 - 안산 구간이 서창분기점 서쪽은 제2경인고속도로, 남쪽은 영동고속도로로 변경되었다.
