청주시 시내버스 노선 중 하나로, 북부공영차고지에서 출발해 천안시 한국기술교육대학교까지 운행한다. 왕복 주행거리는 51.2km. 전체 정류장 목록

3. 역사

청원군 시절에 신설된 노선이다.

가스충전 문제로 인해 2011년 4월 15일에 기점이 서청주종점에서 비하종점으로 변경되었다. 청주시 공지사항

2013년 5월 1일 711번과 종점을 맞바꿔 비하종점에서 청주역까지 연장된 적이 있었는데 수입금 감소로 인해 2주만에 다시 비하종점으로 단축되었다.

2023년 12월 청주 시내버스 개편으로 2023년 12월 9일부터 721번을 흡수하여 한국기술교육대학교에서 송정2리, 가좌리, 성산리, 구오창을 경유하여 북부권환승센터까지 운행한다. 개편하면서 차종도 소형차량으로 변경되었다가 대차되면서 다시 대형차량으로 운행한다.

4. 특징

일렉시티 차량으로 운행한다.

병천에서 400번, 402번, 405번, 500번 등 천안 시내로 가는 노선과 연계되며, 병천에서 출발해 각 마을들로 가는 노선들과도 연계된다. 또한 조치원역으로 가는 세종 910번과도 연계되는데 하루 3회 운행이고 시간도 잘 맞지 않는다. 그래서 시간을 잘 맞춘다면 시내버스 여행을 하기 나쁘지 않는 노선 중 하나였다. 그러나 부산까지는 경주쪽 시내버스 시간표 변경으로 인해 청주 루트로 당일치기를 할 수 없다.[1]

2024년 8월 26일 충청권 통합환승요금체계가 시행되었으나 병천에서 연계되는 세종 910번과는 청주-세종간 환승할인이 불가능하다. 원칙적으로 청주시내버스는 충청권 통합환승요금체계가 세종시 및 대전광역시 진입 노선만 환승할인이 가능해 천안시는 통합환승 체계 미참여 지역인 관계로 718번과 910번 간 환승할인은 배제되었다. 그러니 충청권 광역통합환승할인을 받기 위해서는 무조건 청주시나 세종특별자치시로 나가서 환승해야 한다.

청주에서 천안을 갈 때 1번의 환승으로 3,150원이라는 저렴한 가격에 갈 수 있는 노선이다. (성인 기준)[2][3]

시외버스가 오창 - 기술교대(병천) 구간, 430번이 병천 - 두릉리 구간을 운행하고 있어서, 718번의 대체수단으로 이용할 수 있었다.

여담으로 2000년대 초반까지는 지금은 청주시외버스터미널에서 눈 씻고 찾아봐도 볼 수 없는 충남고속이 청주에서 청주대정류소에 정차한 후 오창, 병천을 경유하여 천안으로 가는 시외버스를 하루 3회 정도 운행한 적이 있었다. 그러다 보니 그 당시 충남고속은 청주대정류소에 유일하게 정차하는 타 지역 면허 시외버스였다.[4] 물론 지금은 이 노선을 코리아와이드 대성에게 넘기고 충남고속은 더 이상 청주에서는 볼 수 없다.

1일 7회 운행 노선이지만 병천까지 기본요금이므로 저렴하게 갈 수 있다.[5]

[1] 부산 루트는 천안->세종->대전 루트를 이용하는 편이다.[2] 청주, 세종 버스에서 천안 버스로 환승할 때는 충청권 통합환승요금체계 미참여 지역이므로 다시 기본요금을 지불해야 한다.[3] 천안에서 직행 시외버스로 청주시외버스터미널까지 가는 경우 일반 4,000원 우등 5,200원이다. 현재 청주시내버스 기본요금이 올랐기 때문에 목적지가 청주시외버스터미널 가경동 주변이면 그냥 직행시외버스를 타는 것이 더 빠르다.[4] 이와는 별개로 청주남부정류장은 충북 면허 시외버스인 서울, 새서울고속, 대성고속, 친선고속, 충북리무진 외에도 금남고속과 삼흥고속(대전행),전북고속(유성 경유 전주행), 호남고속과 대원고속(유성 경유 익산, 군산행) 등이 정차하지만 청주대정류소에 정차하는 시외버스들 중에서 충북 면허가 아닌, 타 지역 면허 시외버스로는 충남고속이 유일했다. 지금은 금남고속이 청주대-인천 노선을 서울고속 및 친선고속과 공동 운행하고 경기고속이 코리아와이드 대성의 충주노선을 인수하여 들어오다 보니 청주대정류소에서도 타 지역 면허 시외버스를 보는 게 낯선 일은 아니지만...[5] 청주시외버스터미널이나 청주대정류소에서 병천가는 시외버스는 존재하지 않으며 대신 진천종합터미널에서 천안행 노선이 중간에 병천을 경유한다. 하지만 국도운임 때문에 요금이 만만치는 않다.
